Sadie and Quinn:
Sadie bakes desserts at her family’s diner. Quinn is a contractor/home renovator working at the house across the lake from the diner. Sadie’s mom is from Ireland (with secrets to be revealed later) and Quinn has a well-to-do lineage from Chicago.
When and where is the story set?
JUST DESSERTS begins in Lake Geneva, an affluent resort town in Wisconsin but then diverts to Chicago.
What should we know about him/her?
Sadie is strong and family is everything.
What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?
At the time when Sadie is most vulnerable, a man enters her life that is hard to resist.
What is the personal goal of the character?
Sadie must fight off her insecurities with a vengeance to accept the happiness that she deserves. Those are her just desserts.

I’ve been lucky to have great families. My mom and dad and three older sisters spoiled me rotten. Now I have a great hubby and three sons that I like to spoil! And two dogs: Stella and Frankie
Fiona: Tell us your latest news?
The second book in my Just Desserts series with Sadie and Quinn will come out by the end of the year! I can’t say a lot about it, but I truly enjoyed my “research” when I learned how to make macarons.
Fiona: When and why did you begin writing?
When I went to university in London it was an experience that I’ll never forget. Many of the people I met have a permanent place in my memory. I began to write a few years ago to give those memories another “life” so to speak. Now, there’s always a British character or two in my stories and I have to create a happy, satisfying ending for them. Once I start writing I have to finish!
Fiona: When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When I sorted out a plot problem on a paper napkin.
Fiona: What inspired you to write your first book?
London

Fiona: How did you come up with the title?
It was a play on the expression “Just Desserts”. Sadie likes to bake and her just desserts was a good thing…Sadie met Quinn.
Fiona: Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Hope is the best guide in life.
Fiona: How much of the book is realistic?
Just Desserts is set in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois both cities that I’ve spent time in so many of the places and locations are true.
Fiona: Are experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
No. Sadie and Quinn have a fictional life of their own.
Fiona: What books have most influenced your life most? a mentor?
I read a variety of books. I am most influenced by Jennifer Crusie and Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
Fiona: What book are you reading now?
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling
Fiona: Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I really enjoyed Vintage by Susan Gloss
Fiona: What are your current projects?
Revising my story that’s placed in the art museum world.
Fiona: Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
My critique partners have been amazing. It’s important to surround yourself with positive mentors. It’s easy to let the rejections drag you down.
Fiona: Do you see writing as a career?
Yes. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Fiona: If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
No
Fiona: Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I majored in journalism because I liked to meet new people. Now, I write about fictional characters so that I can create them the way that I want. It’s a writer’s power trip!
Fiona: Can you share a little of your current work with us?
Macarons!
Fiona: Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Writing is challenging. It’s the nature of the beast.
Fiona: Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
The authors that I mentioned above are the tip of the iceberg. I have many favorite authors for different reasons…
Fiona: Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?
Only to the library--books and magazines are a wealth of inspiration.

Fiona: What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Deciding which revisions to make, or not.
Fiona: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
Perseverance. When I make it to the middle…I can’t and won’t give up.
Fiona: Do you have any advice for other writers?
Keep writing!
Fiona: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

Fiona: Do you remember the first book you read?
I think it was picture book biography on Abraham Lincoln.
Fiona: What makes you laugh/cry?
Quirky self-deprecating humor. I’m over 49-ish so I try not to cry…most of the time
Fiona: Is there one person pass or present you would meet and why?
Past: Abraham Lincoln and Present: Paul McCartney
Fiona: What do you want written on your head stone and why ?
I don’t have an answer to this one…it’s too tough.
Fiona: Other than writing do you have any hobbies ? Fiona: What TV shows/films do you enjoy watching?
I’m love watching The Walking Dead with my three teenage boys.

Favorite food: Pepperoni pizza / Orange / Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters
Fiona: If you were not a writer what else would you like to have done?
I’m still doing it…I love being a mom.
