“Are you decent?”

Ty could see very well that she was, but she nodded to him, and he stepped in closer. Dangling Caleb’s keys in front of her, he reached around to tuck them deep into her hand basket. She rolled her eyes but smiled. He always made sure to keep twenty-first century items out of sight when they were in period dress.

She slipped her socked feet into her boots and bent down to tie them, then cursed when the leather broke.

“Not very lady-like.”

Cassidy raised her head and narrowed her eyes at him. Biting back the urge to make a smart comment, she turned her attention to tying the two broken ends of her leather shoe lace back together. She could see Ty walking away and talking to Caleb. A moment later, his boots shuffled back in front of her.

“Yes?”

“Allow me, madam.” He spoke in a soft tone, then his hands reached down to take her foot, bringing it up to prop upon his knee. He had a long string of leather in hand and quickly managed to remove the broken lace, then began to weave the new one in and out of the eye holes. At one point he slipped his fingers into the shoe to adjust the tongue. Two fingers skipped along her insole, and God help her, but she could just about imagine him using those same digits on another, wetter part of her body. That single touch sent a tingling wave straight up her leg.

Cassidy bit her lip. She leaned forward to watch his progress, and in the process of taking a deep breath, she inhaled the scent of his hair, a mixture of shampoo and a strange scent that she could remember from the days past as being solely Tyler Markson.

“Thank you,” she murmured when he finished and gently lowered her foot to the ground.

Standing back up, his gaze delved deep into hers, then he tipped his hat to her. “Any time, madam.” He turned on his heel to stride off. “See you at camp for dinner.”
