Meet Author Mia Hoddell

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by, it’s great to be part of this YA/NA Blogfest.

I'm the author of the Amazon Best-selling series Seasons of Changeand today I’m going to be interviewing my characters from Summer Demons. I've had many emails asking for more of Jenna, Ethan, and Amy so I thought I’d bring them back to answer some questions.

Mia: Firstly, thanks for all agreeing to meet up once more. I know you’ve all been extremely busy since your holidays.

Ethan: No problem.

Jenna: It sounded like it would be fun.

Amy: Hi everyone!

Mia: So, Jenna, speaking of holidays, yours didn’t exactly go as planned. Could you tell us a little about that?

Jenna: Well … it wasn’t really a holiday. I was in a bad place back then and I thought I could run away from my problems—or at least give myself a break from them. Turns out you can’t, especially when this goon over here decides to pull a practical joke on me, without ever having spoken to me. [points over her shoulder at Ethan as she’s sat on his lap]

Ethan: Hey, I’ve apologised numerous times for that! You’re never going to let me forget it, are you?

Jenna: Of course not. You gave me a panic attack in the middle of a resort. You’re lucky I gave you a chance at all. [Laughing, she leans back against him]

Amy: Yep, you’re lucky, Ethan. And I just want to take this moment to claim credit for those two. All my idea. I should be a matchmaker.

Ethan: [tickling Jenna] See what they put me through?

Amy: You’re not fooling anyone, Ethan. You couldn’t be happier.

Mia: All right, you lot, behave! We can see you love one another, but I want to know what first attracted you to each other?

Jenna: That’s easy! I wasn’t. In fact I found him annoyingly cocky, and I only agreed to go out with him eventually to get him to leave me alone. My plans have a habit of failing, as you can see.

Amy: I also convinced her it would be good for her to have some fun. It was a high-risk strategy, seeing as I wasn't sure about him, but it worked.

Ethan: So the truth finally comes out!

Jenna: You’ve known that all along.

Ethan: [rolls eyes] Anyway, to answer your question properly, it was the way she looked on that li-lo when I first saw her. The sequins on her bikini were shining in the sun, and I couldn’t look away.

Mia: Well, we know what happened next. Have you really not forgiven him for the joke, Jenna?

Jenna: Nah, I was just kidding about that. Although it wasn’t great at the time, it’s probably one of the best things that’s happened to me. He forced me to face all of my problems.

Ethan: You also got me out of it, don’t forget that.

Jenna: Yeah … that too. Anyway, he couldn’t do anything right to begin with, but I’m glad he stuck with me. It all worked out in the end.

Mia: Speaking of the end, readers have been asking me what happened back in England after you flew home. Can you tell us anything interesting?

Jenna: You really want to know that? I mean, we’re not the most exciting couple around …

Ethan: She’s lying. She made me meet her parents, which was eventful to say the least.

Mia: Oh, that sounds interesting … and daunting. What happened?

Jenna: It was so cute, I’ve never seen him so nervous!

Ethan: I was not. I was perfectly at ease—at least until your dad started interrogating me. It was like when I met Jenna times ten. I couldn’t say or do anything right, and when he found out how we met I thought he was going to throw me out of the house. I can understand protective fathers, but her dad took it to the extreme. It’s all good now ... apparently it was a set up and Jenna had told him to do it. [frowns at her back]

Jenna: I warned you I’d get you back for your prank, and I have to say mine was way better than yours.

Mia: Well it’s great to hear you made him pay, Jenna, even if it turned out for the better in the end. Do you know what the future holds for you two?

Ethan: Marriage, kids, and nice house in the country. Hopefully soon.

Jenna/Amy: [eyes wide and mouth open. It takes her a while to recover] What!?

Ethan: Gottcha both again, that makes it 17-4.

Amy/Jenna: Not cool, Ethan. Don’t do that to me! I swear he's going to give me a heart attack. He likes to keep score of how many pranks we pull on each other and, as you heard, he’s winning. Anyway, to answer your question, we’re just seeing where things go and enjoying being together. We’re only nineteen so no big plans as of yet.

Mia: That’s understandable, and I think you need to step your game up, Jenna. He’s winning too often! I think that about wraps it up. Thanks for stopping by guys and good luck with the future.

Ethan/Jenna: Thanks! Great talking to you.

Amy: I’m still waiting for mine and Luke's interview, Mia! We have a story too.

Mia: You’ll get one soon, Amy, I promise. Thanks guys!

Summer Demons

Blurb:

Jenna Shaw ran away to escape her past. In fact, she jumped on a plane and flew to Portugal to try and forget it. However, it turns out leaving everything behind isn’t as easy as it sounds.

She thought she could move on and break free of her fears—that if she had some space the pain would stop. But as memories resurface due to an ill-timed joke, the past crashes into her present once more and she didn’t see it coming.

Jenna’s plans for normality are derailed by the charismatic Ethan Brooks. She sees him as an annoyance; he sees her as a challenge. But as he tries every trick known to him to impress her, they only serve to push her further away. He’s never faced this problem before and Ethan has to work harder than he ever has if he wants to win over and help his mysterious girl.

Winter Angel

Blurb:

She was on holiday. He was tricked into returning.
Neither of them wanted to be there, but neither could avoid it.

Amy wants to be back under the sun in Portugal. However, when her suggestion is overruled in favour of a skiing holiday, even she can’t turn it down. What she couldn’t have predicted is that the holiday could make her break the one, and only, rule she has: not to get into a serious relationship again.

When Amy first sees Luke, she knows something is wrong. He’s struggling to cope with everything and her need to help people makes him the perfect distraction from the cold. He hasn’t been to the Alps in five years and he swore to never ski again. But as his defences are broken by Amy’s persistence, the winter paradise begins to reawaken his desires.

However, with constant flashbacks triggering his anxiety, he’s torn, battling conflicting emotions as he becomes increasingly captivated by Amy. She has a rule though. She didn’t go on holiday to fall for someone and the last thing she needs is to ignore her own advice. Whether or not she can move past her insecurities will depend on whether Luke can face his biggest fear.

Autumn Ghosts

Blurb:

Her dreams may cost Ellie her family, but ignoring them will cost her happiness.

Only one person knows what truly lies in Ellie Jeffords’ heart, and that’s herself. For almost three years she’s concealed her dreams and lived the life her parents expect her to by studying accountancy. She’s tried to follow their wishes, but they forgot to consider one important detail: Ellie’s happiness.

Hating the course she is studying, Ellie is failing, and the only person who was willing to help—her gran—has passed away. Not wanting to disappoint her family, she struggles on in silence, thinking she can rectify the problem before anyone finds out. So when a friend’s cousin, Justin, offers to tutor her, she jumps at the chance.

As the two meet frequently, and grow closer together, the pressure of exams starts to break Ellie. Justin wants her to confide in him, but he can’t persuade her to talk without revealing his own dark secret. With both of them hiding things, it tests their newly formed relationship. However, Justin refuses to give up on her. He forces her to make a choice between her parents’ dreams and her own, but the only problem is that both options may cost her something she loves.
