Meet Author Mia Hoddell

A big thank you to Apryl for organising this blogfest again, and having me back!

I'm Mia Hoddell, YA/NA author of the #1 Amazon bestselling series Seasons of ChangeElemental Killers, and False Finder. Today I thought I'd interview two of my characters from False Finder, an urban fantasy/dystopian thriller published with Limitless Publishing.

I hope you enjoy my stop.

False Finder

Mia: Hi everyone, today I have Cora and Nick with me. They’ve kindly--albeit reluctantly--agreed to an interview. Why don't you guys say hi?

Nick: What the hell, Mia? You didn't tell me she was going to be here.

Cora: I could say the same thing, jackass. I didn't exactly want to see your ugly mug again either.

Mia: Um ... guys?

Cora: What? You think I'm going to give an interview with him sat over there? [stands up furiously] Screw this. I'm leaving.

Nick: Typical. That's just like you ... leaving me to deal with your mess while you run off.

Cora: Excuse me? [spins towards him]

Nick: [Leans back casually, folding his arms with a tight expression] You heard me. Running is all you're good at. Well, that and selling out your only friend. Actually, you're pretty good at making enemies too, aren't you?

Cora: It's called survival.

Mia: Okay, you two. Cool it. I would actually like to ask some questions.

Cora: I told you, I'm leaving. You can stuff your questions.

Nick: Yeah, me too. For once I'm not suffering for her. [Moves to stand]

Mia: Neither of you are going anywhere so sit back down. Remember, I control your story and how difficult your lives are.

Nick: [Grumbles, but sits down] I can't believe I agreed to this.

Mia: Cora?

Cora: Fine, but only because I know you're not lying. I have enough problems in my life already. I don't need you adding to them.

Nick: [Snorts] You created them yourself. Deal with it.

Cora: [Casts Nick a furious look] I did what I had to to survive.

Mia: Oookay ... since you brought it up, Cora, what's it like living with the ability to detect when anyone is lying?

Cora: [Rolls eyes] Original.

Mia: Cora, you can either answer my questions and play nice or you're going to be wearing bubblegum pink for an entire novel. It's your choice.

Cora:
Ugh, you're not lying either. Fine, living with this ability is both a curse and a saviour. At the beginning it drove me crazy hearing the deceit in everyone's words. You wouldn't believe the crap people lie about. Anyway, finally I learnt to tune out the background noise and only register a lie when I'm looking for it. So far it's been an asset. It's allowed me to know who I can and can't trust, and enabled me to survive. I can remain one step ahead of Rogan this way.

Mia: Isn't it your ability that's made you a target, though?

Cora: [Shrugs] Like I said, it's a curse and a saviour.

Nick: It's not just you it has an impact on either. I should haul your ass to Rogan's the second we leave here for what you did to me.

Mia: I think it's safe to say there's no love lost between you two.

Nick: How can there be any love when she sold me to Carvelli to save herself? I was her closest friend for years and she gave me up without even hesitating.

Cora: I did what I had to. I tried my best to save you, but I couldn't.

Nick: I may not have your ability, Cora, but that doesn't mean I can't tell when you're lying.

Mia: Was it an easy decision to make, Cora? Would you do it again if you had to?

Nick: [Sarcastically] Oh, this should be good.

Cora: Of course I would. Did I like doing it? No. But when it comes down to me or someone else, I have to look out for number one. The country's not the same as it used to be, measures have to be taken and sacrifices made. If I hadn't made a deal with Rogan, I'd have never got out.

Mia: So you have no regrets?

Cora: Regrets only make you weak. I don't have time to look back.

Mia: How about you, Nick? Would you have done the same if the roles were reversed?

Nick: No. I have more loyalty than that and I wouldn't have been caught in the first place.

Cora: He's lying.

Nick: Yeah, okay ... you caught me. But here's the thing. At one point would have fought for you, Cora. I'd have done everything in my power to save you. However, I couldn't care less what happens to you now. And you know what the best bit is?

Mia: Nick ...

Nick: No, she needs to hear this. Can you guess what I'm going to say?

Cora: I can decipher lies, not look into the future.

Nick:
[Leans forward in his chair, not breaking eye contact with Cora] The best part is I'm going to have a front row seat to your downfall. Someone at some point is going to return the favour you so graciously bestowed upon me. They're going to sell you out and you'll have no one and nowhere to run to.

Cora: I'd like to see them try.

Nick: You will, just you wait. You think I'm lying?

Cora: I know you're not lying, but that doesn't mean it's the truth. You can't predict what's going to happen.

Nick: Am I right, Mia? Someone's going to betray Cora, aren't they?

Mia: I think we should end this here. In hindsight, bringing you two in together probably wasn't the best idea.

Cora: Wait, answer his question.

Mia: I'm sorry, Cora. It's not my place to reveal anything.

Cora: Seriously? You're the author. You decide the rules.

Mia: I'm not saying anything, Cora, and we really need to wrap this up. So, thanks--I think--for doing this guys. And watch your backs out there.

Nick: I'll give you a ten minute head start, Cora. For old time's sake.

Cora: [Without glancing back Cora leaves, slamming the door on her way out]

Mia: Why'd you do that? You could have taken her in right now.

Nick: [Shrugs] I could have, yet I her want to feel what she put me through. That's not going to happen unless she's betrayed, which is going to be soon. She has to slip up eventually.

Mia: Right. Well, you should probably get going. I'm sure Rogan has jobs for you.

Nick: Yes. Thanks, for this ... it was ... fun.
