Meet author LP Dover

An Interview With Mason from Meant For Me

What was the first thing you thought when you met Claire? Oh hell, you honestly want to know? Whatever you do, don’t tell her. Okay, let’s see … other than being fucking hot in that red dress she was wearing at the bachelor/bachelorette party before my cousin’s wedding, I thought she was going to be a rich, uptight bitch like her brother. Needless to say, she proved me wrong.

When did you know you loved her? I think I knew long before I even realized it, but I didn’t do relationships, I didn’t have time for them. Especially, with a girl who lived all the way across the United States. However, when her brother took Melissa away from us, I do believe that was the beginning. It was the first time I had seriously almost lost my shit over a case, with it being my cousin’s disappearance and all, but she was there for me and I for her. She kept me from going over the edge and refused to leave my side until we found Melissa. She had a spark that drew me to her, and after I got that first taste it was over … I was addicted.

Did you always know her brother was insane? No, not in the psychotic, I’m going to kidnap my ex wife kind of insane, but believe me, being in the force I’ve seen some crazy ass shit. It didn’t surprise though when he lost it. You never know when someone’s going to turn on you, so I’ve learned to expect the unexpected.

Is Cooper still around? Ugh … unfortunately, yes. He happens to be good friends with my cousin’s husband, Brett, so if there’s ever a party he’s always there. I get it, he and Claire have history, and I have no idea what that’s like because I never stayed with the same girl for over two weeks, but dammit, if I don’t hate them being around each other. I trust Claire, and I know Cooper isn’t going to try anything with her because he knows I’ll kick his ass, but the thing that gets me is I’ll catch him looking at her from the across the room at these so called parties. In a way, I can’t blame him because any guy would be stupid not to look at her, but I always had to remember that she was mine … always mine.

Do you consider Madison your daughter? How could I not? We may not share the same blood, but that child is probably going to be more like me than any other child Claire and I might have in the future. I tell you, the first time she ever called me ‘daddy’ literally had me wanting to cry fucking tears. I don’t cry, you can ask Claire, but hearing those words come from my little girl’s mouth was one of the best feelings I think I’ve ever felt.

How close are you and Matt? Pretty close now. When I first moved to California I called him up and we started training together. It started out maybe twice a week with meeting at the gym, but now we train almost five days a week with the help of his coach. He’ll come hang out with me and Claire on the weekends sometimes and drink a beer or two, but he has his bad boy life to live up to so he’s mainly out and about. He still says he’s going to beat me when I fight him for the Heavyweight title, and who knows he might, because when I fought him before he was the hardest fighter I’d ever had to contend with. I guess we’ll see though.

Do you still talk to your friends from the force? Yeah, at least once a week to check in. Sometimes it’ll be once every two weeks, but I like to keep my connections open. If I were to ever need them for anything I want to know that I have them behind me.

Do you think Claire will try to dance professionally? No, unfortunately, she’s kind of given up on that dream. However, she’s moved on to a new one. We’ve been working out the details, but I think Claire is going to open up her own dance studio. Now that we have Madison, she wants to teach her everything she knows and possibly other children as well so they can follow their dreams. Claire still dances in her own time and by the smile on her face I know she’s happy.

What is living in California like compared to North Carolina? The land, the smell, the mountains, and the weather are all different in California. I miss my home state and I know Claire would kill me for saying this, but I love North Carolina so much better; it’s much more slow paced, it’s not as crowded, and I honestly think our mountains and beaches are a lot nicer. The air smells better too. Plus, it’s where I’ve lived all my life and have so many memories of my family.

Is Claire still in touch with Tyler and Jake? Yes, she still talks to them. At least once a month, Claire and I take Madison back to Las Vegas and we’ll stay the weekend with Jake. Tyler and his dad always come over too so she sees him every so often. He still likes to flirt with her to get on my nerves, but I always pay him back when we spar so it’s all good.

Thank you for stopping by, I know your time is very valuable.  Thank you for having me. It was well worth the time.
