She’s looking forward to the prom, then graduation and senior week at the shore. The only thing she isn’t looking forward to is the start of college, because it means she won’t be near Mike. They are attending schools on opposite sides of the state.
But Gina’s normal teen life ends the night she is brutally raped by her math teacher and Mike’s baseball coach. Coach Smith threatens to destroy Mike’s promising baseball career if Gina tells anyone what happened. To protect Mike, Gina keeps quiet and eventually, unable to deal with the effects of the rape, breaks up with Mike.
They reconnect at their 20th high school reunion where the past catches up with them and Mike learns the truth about what happened 20 years ago.
Excerpt:
Why is it that you never forget your first love? Maybe it’s because it’s the first person you gave your heart to, completely. The first time you were afraid to breathe for fear the moment would pass and you would miss some of the seconds. Life is seldom what we think it will be. Especially when you’re seventeen and the biggest concern you have is whether someone has the same prom dress.

"What an amazing and wonderful novel! Be prepared to experience a plethora of feelings as Buffy Andrews grips your heart within the first few pages. You will become intensely drawn into the lives of Gina and Mike and experience their lives through their points of view. It really is an amazing perspective to be in the mind of each character and feel what they feel, see what they see. The book is riveting and engaging as vivid memories of high-school and first love spill off the pages and into your soul. You will quickly turn the pages in anticipation as their journey unfolds.
It is an experience that you will feel a part of and it will leave a tremendous lasting impression. I loved it!"

5 quick questions:
Q. What were the most difficult scenes in book to write?
A. Definitely the sex scenes. For some weird reason, the brutal rape scene wasn’t nearly as difficult as the sex scenes. In fact, after I wrote the rape scene, I was shocked at what came out of my head. And I felt kind of embarrassed.
Q. Have you ever kept a secret that you should have told like your protagonist Gina does?
A. No. I’ve kept secrets, but nothing to the magnitude that Gina does. But Gina’s young and naive and she really believes that Coach Smith can destroy Mike’s dream of getting a baseball scholarship to his dad’s alma mater. With age comes wisdom.
Q. What do you do when you need to think or are stuck in your writing?
A. I run. For some reason it frees my mind and I often find that it provides the clarity and direction I need.
Q. Are you one of those people who stop writing while you know what’s coming next?
A. Absolutely. Just like Hemingway. Does it always work out? No. But it’s what I aim for.
Q. Who will the next book in the series be about?
A. (Big smile) Sue and Tom. And it’s soooo good. I can’t wait to share it with my readers.
