How far would you go to survive?
Cassidy Hart is your typical High School graduate: A little shy, a little sarcastic, and a little naive. But when an electromagnetic pulse takes down the United States, she's forced to kick into full survival mode when she gets separated from her father.
Yeah. Things suck.
But with the help of a handsome soldier named Chris, she just might find her dad without getting into serious trouble.
Emphasis on might.
Oh. And there's the matter of avoiding getting killed in a world that's quickly turned into an active war zone.
It's going to change Cassidy's life.
It's going to be a major pain in the butt.

Cassidy Hart has had better days.
Her dad is missing. Her friends have been captured. And modern society is pretty much gone, thanks to an EMP that destroyed the technological infrastructure of the United States.
Surviving in the foothills of California is a challenge, but with the help of former Navy SEAL Chris Young, Cassidy's been able to stay alive.
Until now. Omega, the shadow army arisen from the chaos, won't stop until every single survivor is either under their control or dead. Taken by soldiers and forced into a labor camp, Cassidy must turn the tables on her captors. Escape means everything. Unfortunately, staying out of Omega's crosshairs is easier said than done.
You can run.
But you can't hide.
Cassidy's about to learn that the hard way.
Author Bio:
Summer Lane is
the author of the national bestselling YA/NA Romantic Adventure novels, State
of Emergency and State of Chaos.
She is a freelance writer, publicist and lover of all things feline. In her
spare time, Summer is the creator of the online magazine/blog, Writing Belle,
in addition to being a co-founder and frequent contributor at NA Alley, a
website dedicated to all things New Adult.
Summer began
writing when she was 13 years old, due to the fact that the long afternoons
after school were somewhat boring, and writing stories seemed to make the time
pass a little quicker. Since then she has written many books about jungle cats,
secret agents, princesses and spaceships. She is also a non-fiction writer, but
her debut novel, State of Emergency, is her favorite book yet. You can
find Summer hopping around on the Internet by following her on Twitter

Interview with Summer Lane:
Why did you write the
Collapse Series?
Why not? As long as I can remember, I’ve been stuck in a
story world. Storytelling has always been a hobby of mine, and when I was 13, I
decided to make a career out of it. Ever since then I’ve been waiting to
publish a book, and I finally hit on the right story with State of Emergency.
Cassidy Hart. Who is
she? What inspired her creation?
Cassidy is your typical, smart mouthed teenager. She’s
naïve, she’s just out of high school and she thinks she knows everything. But
she doesn’t, and that makes for some entertaining situations. I wanted somebody
imperfect – somebody with virtually no real-world experience to be thrown into
a collapsing society. It would be doubly hard for her, and that much more
entertaining for us.
Chris Young is the
strong, capable love interest. How did you come up with him?
At the time that I created State of Emergency, I knew exactly who Chris Young was the second I
started writing about him. He’s a man – not a boy – and capable of keeping
Cassidy alive in situations where she would otherwise die. People ask me if
he’s based on anybody I know and I say this: Yes and no. His personality is
partly based on a lot of different
people I’ve met over the years…but he is fictional. Completely and entirely.
He’s just the kind of guy you’d want to protect you during the collapse of
modern society, you know? A real man.
How do you write? Do
you have to get inspired by music or places?
I just sit down and start creating. I do my best work in
total silence, and because my iPhone has proven to be a gross distraction from
story creation, I keep internet access, televisions, radios and music far away
from me when I’m writing. I need peace and quiet during story creation –
nothing can pull me out of that world.
Plans for book 3?
Yes! State of Collapse will release Winter 2013, and I’m
excited about that. I’m just finishing the last half of the story as we speak.
As for plans concerning a fourth or fifth installment, I can’t say yet. You’ll
find out if the end is coming…or not. **wink**
