The Guardians
The Lost Book Realm Book 1
by K.L. Penington

When sixteen-year-old twins Emma and Evin LeFay are suddenly forced to pack their belongings after the tragic murder of their mother, they soon find that the busy city life of Boston, Massachusetts is more than they could have expected...

It's after a close-run in with a group of menacing creatures, and the sudden aid of the same strange people that have been following them since their arrival to the city that Emma and Evin quickly realize there is more to Boston than skyscrapers and noisy cars.

Left with no other options and seeking the truth behind their mother's murder, Emma and Evin accompany their saviors to a place known as Hawthorne Academy. It's here that the twins soon learn they are part of a supernatural race with rare abilities, one Otherworld race amongst four other paranormal races that have lived in disguise as humans for centuries.

Being part of an Otherworld race has its drawbacks, however, when Emma and Evin are enrolled for training at Hawthorne after a heated meeting with the Otherworld Council and its leaders. It's either sink or swim for these Otherworldly twins as they train at the academy and learn to control their unique gifts.

It's Emma and Evin's job to protect both realms from the darkness that taints them and the mysterious Precursor that seems to want them dead.

The Secret Society
The Lost Book Realm Book 2
by K.L. Penington

It’s been one month since Emma and Evin Lefay’s encounter with the vengeful Caine Fletcher, and just as they are beginning to hope things can return to normal—or as normal as the Otherworlders’ lives can be—that the twins are attacked one night in a graveyard by mysterious, mask-wearing Stiffs. It’s immediately following this incident that the twins learn the masked Stiffs are known as Venators, and are part of a secret society, whose sole purpose is to extinguish all Otherworld beings.

Along with having to worry about these new predators, strange things are happening to Emma and Evin. Emma begins having peculiar daydreams—daydreams that show her events before they can happen. Evin also begins to experience odd changes, involving the sudden, phenomenal ability to supernaturally heal his own wounds. The question is: how?
Meanwhile, Tristan’s sister is in town, and she’s causing more trouble than good—mainly in Evin’s love life. With two very different girls vying for his attention and only one girl worth chasing after, how can the Guardian possibly be expected to concentrate on much of anything else?

As if they aren’t already overwhelmed enough, the leader of the Boston Otherworld Mafia has taken a sudden interest in the Guardians. “Marco Polo,” as he is called, promises to help Emma and Evin with the Venators—for an unlisted price.
Things are quickly spinning out of control for Emma and Evin.

Will they conquer the threats that face them?

Or have the Guardians of the Realms finally met their match?

Character Bios

Name: Evin LeFay

Born: September 23rd, 1995

Hometown: Shreveport, Louisiana
Hobbies: Football

One of our four main protagonists of The Lost Realm series, Evin brings a huge chunk of outgoing, light-hearted sarcasm to the series. A former football star and high school “celebrity,” life in Boston is drastically different than anything Evin ever could have predicted—namely his sudden “nobody” status.
As if none of this is a big enough change, for the first time in his life, Evin is without a girlfriend—unheard of! There’s also the minor fact that he’s not entirely human, though who’s keeping tabs? Despite all of this, Evin’s goal remains the same: protect his twin sister at all costs.

Name: Tristan Pierce
Born: July 14th, 1994

Hometown: Carterton, England
Hobbies: Playing the guitar and killing things—sometimes simultaneously.

The third person from which The Lost Realm series is centered around is Tristan. Tristan is a rare character among the rest in that, quite frankly, he’s a complete sociopath. Tristan is all about no-nonsense, and lives by the motto, “Whatever stands in your way, crush it.” His intense personality and dry sarcasm don’t leave much room for friends, but then again, who needs very many friends when your sole purpose in life revolves around killing threatening Otherworld creatures?
The recent arrival of the LeFay twins have put Tristan’s strictly routine life off-balance, which in his book is a major problem. Unfortunately for him, Tristan is expected to train with these amateur newcomers, while also protecting them from any harm that may come—if he doesn’t strangle them first.

Character Interview

Interviewer: It’s so nice to finally be able to meet you all! Since you’re here, do you mind if I ask each you a few questions?

Tristan: I thought we’d already established that’s why we were here in the first place.

Claire: Easy, Pierce.  He’s only trying to do his job.

Emma: Yeah, Tristan. No need to take everything personally.

Tristan: Who said I’m taking this personally?

Evin: [raising eyebrow] Really, man?

Interviewer: Okay…well…back to the interview. First question: you all have great hair. What kind of product do you use?

Tristan: Product? Do you really think I’d waste the time fixing my hair every morning?

Evin: I thought you purposefully aimed for that whole bedhead thing?

Claire: That would imply that Tristan actually has a sense of fashion.

Emma: [laugh]

Interviewer: So…no product.

Tristan: No.

Claire: [tossing hair] This mane is au natural.

Interviewer: Do any of you have any hobbies?

Tristan: Does killing things count?

Emma: You really need to get out more.

Tristan: I get out all the time.

Evin: I think she meant “get out more” as “you really need to socialize more often and kill less.”

Claire: [ignoring others] I like to design clothes.

Interviewer: Really? Are you wearing anything right now that you’ve designed?

Claire: [blushing] Maybe, but I don’t think I can tell you what.

Interviewer: [also blushing]...Okay. Never mind.

Evin: [manically grinning] Now I’m curious.

Tristan: Are we done yet?

Interviewer: Not yet. Tell me about the love life as students. Are any of you in a romantic relationship?

Evin: Why, do you want my number?

Interviewer: I—er—

Evin: Kidding. Again. But to answer your question, I am seeing someone right now.

Interviewer: Oh yeah? What’s her name?

Evin: Who said anything about them being a her?

Tristan: That certainly would explain a lot…

Interviewer: Oh, well, what’s his name?

Evin: Jumping to conclusions about me, are we?

Emma: [groan]

Interviewer: I’m so confused right now…

Evin: [chuckling] It is a she. And I would tell you her name, but she wants me to keep our relationship under wraps for now. [Looks at Claire]

Interviewer: Is she embarrassed of you?

Evin: [scoffing] Of course not!

Claire: Your girlfriend may think otherwise.

Interviewer: What about you two? Emma? Tristan?

Emma: [uncomfortable cough] Er…

Tristan: Did you not just hear the part about me not having time to fix my hair? Why would I have any more time for dating?

Interviewer: Surely you—

Tristan: Next question, please.

Interviewer: Are you always this short-tempered?

Evin, Emma, and Claire: [simultaneously] Yes.

Tristan: I just don’t like to waste my time on stupid questions.

Interviewer: My questions aren’t stupid!

Tristan: The bloody hell they’re not.

Interviewer: That’s it, Tristan. We’re done now.

Tristan: [exits room]

Emma: Don’t take it personally. Tristan hates everyone.

Interviewer: Thanks…I think.

About the Author:
K.L. Penington was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, which is what initially inspired the background for characters Emma and Evin. It was at an early age that K.L. discovered she was not whatsoever athletically gifted, an evil genius, or the next Beethoven. One thing she did know, however, was that she loved to read. As a result, growing up, some of her best friends and biggest influences in her life were the characters from her favorite books.

The passion behind K.L.’s writing comes from the ability to be anyone and do anything, and because she can share the multiple different personalities living in her head without anyone judging her—much. Her dream has always been to one day see her own books on bookshelves, next to the hundreds of other books she enjoys reading.

Currently residing in Wichita Falls, Texas, K.L. attends Midwestern State University, where she is in fierce pursuit of an English degree. When not writing, K.L. can be found haunting the local coffee shop, nurturing an everlasting addiction to chai tea, or spoiling her only child, Lily, the small poodle with the big attitude.
