Awakening is the first book in the series Bloodlines. I wrote it out by hand over several months while listening to Fall Out Boy and Lady Antebellum. Alex went through many changes and her story was something I just couldn't get out of my head. It had to be written. I sincerely hope you give it a chance. I classify the work as dark, paranormal YA and is marketable to both teens and an older audience. Readers of Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick and The Secret Circle by L. J. Smith will flock to Awakening.
